China CORD Industry Alliance Testing Working Group was Formally Established to Help Diversification of Edge Access

Recently, led by China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute and BII-Global SDN Certified Testing Center, along with more than 10 suppliers and partners, China CORD Industry Alliance Testing Working Group has been officially announced, which, based on the open source system architecture and software platform of ONF CORD Certification Brigade, gathers the energy of the whole industry, realizes collaborative innovation and win-win cooperation, and drives the development of edge computing.

After its establishment, China CORD Industry Alliance Testing Working Group will carry out CORD test case compilation and standard formulation within the system framework of Open Networking Foundation (ONF) to jointly promote the launch of CORD certification project. It will mainly carry out group component testing, centralized testing, optimize CORD POD deployment process, conduct CORD functional, performance and reliability testing, launch the internal group testing standards for China CORD Industry Alliance, and deploy pilot projects in China Unicom and other application units. CORD testing will provide assurance to the operator community to ensure that the supplier's products meet the common critical functions, performance and life cycle requirements in the CORD environment.

China CORD Industry Alliance was initiated by China Unicom in 2016 to integrate the advantages and resources of traditional operators, CORD manufacturers, chip manufacturers and software service providers, while introducing the concept of open source into cooperation. Based on architecture and software technology of CORD open source organization and relying on industry alliance, China CORD Industry Alliance will strengthen open source development capability, achieve synergistic innovation and win-win cooperation, jointly promote the commercial deployment of CORD in China, and accelerate the transformation to a new generation of network architecture.

ONF is an international open alliance organization led by operators in 2011. By using SDN, NFV and cloud technology to build solutions around network hardware and software decoupling, white box devices, open source software and software definition standards, ONF promotes the transformation of network infrastructure and business modes of operators, and helps the whole ecosystem to significantly reduce the cost of Capex and Opex, including 5G. Mobile networks, super broadband and other future network technologies.

CORD (Central Office Re-architected as a DataCenter) project is an open source project in SDN field initiated and managed by ONF. It is an ideal platform for building and constructing edge cloud concept. The latest version has fully supported cloud native application Kubernetes. Apart from supporting the transformation of operator's CO (Central Office) into cloud data center, CORD transforms operator's and enterprise's edge computer room into a basic platform with edge access capability. Its goal is to provide reference to the implementation of network operator's service delivery platform. Its core output includes a software platform, a series of hardware specifications and service models. CORD project integrates a series of open source projects, including OpenStack, Docker and ONOS®, and uses DevOps application development model to build an open, programmable and agile platform for network operators. The scenarios of CORD are mainly divided into home access business (R-CORD), enterprise business (E-CORD) and mobile business (M-CORD). In the above scenarios, CORD has also developed monitoring analysis (A-CORD).

In this April, China CORD Industry Alliance Testing Working Group will hold its first meeting in Beijing to carry out testing and standard-setting work, help pilot project of China CORD edge platform deployment, accelerate the development of the entire industry, and promote the construction of a new industrial ecological system.
